The Havelock boys and girls basketball games open the state 3A playoffs with home games tonight.

The Havelock boys (16-6), the Coastal 3A Conference regular season and tournament champion, are seeded sixth in the east bracket and face No. 27 Cardinal Gibbons (13-13) at 7:30 p.m.

Should the Rams win, they would face the winner of the game between No. 11 Rocky Mount and No. 22 Eastern Guilford on Wednesday night at Havelock High.

The Havelock girls, second in the Coastal 3A Conference regular season, got a No. 13 seed and are scheduled to host No. 20 Fayetteville Westover at 6 p.m. The Rams enter the game with a 14-9 record, while the Wolverines are 10-15. The winter advances to play either No. 4 Union Pines (21-4) or No. 29 Southern Durham (11-14).
