Havelock High School has scheduled a state championship football ceremony on Friday.
The event is open to the public as space allows. Seating for visitors is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with the ceremony expected to start around 9:15 a.m.
The event will feature words from the coaches as well as remarks from Lane Mills, superintendent of Craven County Schools.
Players will be recognized and presented awards during the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Havelock has started raising money to go toward the purchase of state championship rings for the players. Havelock High coaches are trying to encourage each fan who attended Saturday’s state championship game in Raleigh to donate at least $10, though any amount would be appreciated.
“These kids worked so hard this season, we don’t want them to have to work to raise money or buy their own rings,” Havelock assistant coach Caleb King said.
State championship T-shirts and clothing is in the design phase and soon will be on sale with proceeds going to support the ring drive.
Anyone wishing to donate can make checks payable to Havelock High School with the words “ring fund” placed on the memo line. Donations can be made during normal school hours or can be mailed to Havelock High School, 101 Webb Blvd., Havelock, NC 28532.
