The Havelock boys swim team placed fourth and the girls finished fifth in an eight-team meet Wednesday at the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern.
The Havelock boys totaled 181 points in the meet, just four points behind West Carteret’s total of 185 for third place. Greenville Rose won the meet with 355 points.
Individually for the Havelock boys, Jacob Engel placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.38 seconds, while Joseph Whitley was third in the 500 freestyle in 6:36.60. Whitley (2:20.11) was also sixth in the 200 freestyle.
Michael Dearing (7:46.80) was fifth in the 500 freestyle, while Seth Schneider (1:11.63) finished sixth in the 100 butterfly. Sam Smith (25.58) and Kendall Smith (25.60) were seventh and eighth respectively in the 50 freestyle.
In the relay events, Havelock’s 200 medley relay of Engel, Sam Smith, Schneider and Wesley Carlo was fourth in 1:56.55, while the 200 freestyle relay of Engle, Schneider, Smith and Smith was also fourth in 1:42.77.
Havelock had two teams earn points in the 400 freestyle relay. Engel, Whitley, Smith and Smith were fourth in 3:53.65, while Schneider, Nicolaus Seegel, Justin Kilgore and Travis Hunter were seventh in 4:17.62.
Havelock’s girls totaled 137 points for fifth place. D.H. Conley won the meet with 278 points.
Individually for the Havelock girls, Abby Clark was third in the 50 freestyle in 27.11 and third in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.75. Sarah Glasbrenner finished fifth in the 500 freestyle in 7:27.45 and seventh in the 200 freestyle in 2:38.88.
Also for Havleock, Amanda Buffa (1:21.59) placed eighth in the 100 butterfly, while Alexia Tompkins (7:37.96) was eighth in the 500 freestyle.
The girls 200 freestyle relay team of Clark, Caitlin Annunziata, Ali Wickman and Emily Bess were fourth in 1:59.54.
The Rams had two teams earn points in the 400 freestyle relay. The group of Clark, Wickman, Glasbrenner and Bess were fourth in 4:36.67, while Annunziata, Buffa, Alisa Smith and Savannah Buday were sixth in 4:59.16.
Havelock is next scheduled to swim in the Coastal 3A Conference championships at 4 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern.
