Jailen Ganos led the Bears with 13 points, while Colin Jacobs and Jeff Taylor each added 10.

Ram girls squeeze by Bears

In a game that featured 42 personal fouls and 37 missed free throws, the Havelock Rams girls team (2-1) outlasted the New Bern Bears (1-2) 51-44 Monday in New Bern.

Shakina Dyer led the Rams with 14 hard-earned points, most of which came from the paint, while Natalie Johnson nailed four clutch free throws to help put the game on ice.

New Bern received 14-point efforts from J.J. Jones and Brianna Coor.

Apriel Barrette notched nine points for the Rams and Alaya Fenderson scored six fourth-quarter points.

New Bern did its best to cap a spirited comeback and was as close as three points before the Rams buckled down and thwarted the Bears’ momentum.
