Scott raced 63 yards on the second play of the game, lifting Havelock to an early 7-0 lead. He finished the contest with 131 yards rushing on just 14 carries.

Sabdo threw 9 yards to Matthew Boykin for a score, and added a 34-yarder to Boykin as the top-ranked Rams (5-0) took a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

Northside’s Juwaun Eddy returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown to narrow the gap to 21-7 early in the second quarter. The Monarchs (2-3) came up with four turnovers for the contest, including interceptions by Josh Cabrera and Isaiah Wells.

“Our defense is athletic and will get after it,” Northside coach Bob Eason said. “We just need to be a little more fundamental.”

Sabdo came back later as Michael Bowman took a screen pass 34 yards for a touchdown with 4:25 left in the second quarter, as the Rams led 28-7 at halftime.

Sabdo finished 13 of 23 for 175 yards but had little success getting the ball down the field. He also threw his first two interceptions of the season, two of Havelock’s four turnovers on the night.

“Offensively, we had our spots, but we didn’t play the kind of football I expected us to play,” Bryant said. “I expected us to get through the game with no turnovers and blocking our rules, and we didn’t do a great job of that.
