Havelock High School has started a championship ring fundraising drive and has planned a public celebration for the football team.

The cost of championship rings for the 45 players as well as coaches and team managers is expected to be around $12,000. Those wishing to make a donation can make checks payable to Havelock High School and mail them to 101 Webb Blvd., Havelock, NC 28532. Donations can also be dropped off at the school during normal school hours.

Meanwhile, the school is planning a public celebration from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Dec. 21 inside the school’s gymnasium.

Students, elected and school officials and parents of football players will receive priority, but residents can also attend the event as space in the gymnasium allows.

The celebration will include presentation of awards and letters to the football players, and recognition of the team and coaches through resolutions by the Havelock and Craven County boards of commissioners.

Havelock defeated Concord 55-21 on Dec. 1 at Wake Forest’s BB&T Field to win the state 3A championship. The title is Havelock’s second in a row.
