Havelock softball team falls in first round of playoffs

The Havelock softball team saw its season come to an end with a 9-1 loss to Nash Central in the first round of the state 3A playoffs on Friday in Rocky Mount.

Nash Central scored single runs in the first and third innings to lead 2-0, but exploded in the fourth, plating five runs to lead 7-0 and all but wrapping up the victory. Havelock made three errors in the game, contributing to the output.

The Trojans, the Big East Conference champions, improved to 19-1 on the season.

The Rams managed just two hits in the contest and got its only run in the seventh inning.

Havelock, the fifth seed from the Coastal 3A Conference after a 7-7 league mark, finishes its season with a 12-10 overall record.
