Havelock seniors headed to another state championship game

“That should be what it’s like every year for Havelock, wanting to hold that trophy,” Havelock senior linebacker Andrew Ramirez said. “It’s a blessing. I wouldn’t want to be on any other team. I thank God, the coaches and my teammates. I’m at a loss for words.”

The seniors were just sophomores when they won their first state title – a 38-6 win over West Rowan in 2011. The next year, they were more seasoned as juniors, helping the Rams to their second title.

They have certainly set a standard, not only at Havelock, but across the state.

“You could say we set a really high standard,” Scott said. “The other kids have big shoes to fill, but that’s how it needs to be at Havelock.

“Havelock is a football town and Havelock is always going to have high expectations in football.”

Bryant said he expects his seniors to lead, and for four years, they haven’t let him down. They’ve advanced to the state semifinals every year.

As a program, Havelock has reached the 3A Eastern Finals five years in a row.
