Coplon commits to East Carolina, Vickers to South Carolina

Vickers, listed at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, will likely join the Gamecocks’ program in two years when former Havelock offensive lineman Corey Robinson is a senior.

Robinson is starting on South Carolina’s line. Add Vickers, Cooper and possibly Scott, who is being recruited hard by South Carolina, the Gamecocks’ roster could be Havelock heavy.

“I’m excited,” Vickers said. “I told my parents last night that I was going to commit. They might have been more excited than I was.”

Vickers’ dream was to play Division I football. Soon, he will be playing in one of the best football conferences in the Southeastern Conference.

“They call it the mini-NFL for a reason,” Vickers said. “The game-speed in the SEC is so much faster than in every other conference. The competition-level is at an all-time high, and I like to be pushed.”

Coplon, who was invited to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, has two receiving touchdowns, four punt returns for touchdowns and three interception returns for scores.

“I picked (ECU) because I liked the coaches, and I know some of the players,” said Coplon, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. “I like what they are doing there.”
