The Havelock Rams are officially starting to look like a college football team.

Offensive lineman Kendal Vickers verbally committed to play at the University of South Carolina on Thursday. Defensive back A.J. Coplon agreed to play football at East Carolina.

The pledge from Vickers and Coplon brings the tally of committed Division I college football players to four. Pharoh Cooper is heading to South Carolina and Malcom Ashley is set to attend ECU.

Standout running back Derrell Scott has been offered by a dozen or so big-name programs, while several other Havelock Rams are receiving attention.

“I’ve always wanted to do this since I was a little kid,” Vickers said. “I’ve always loved football and it’s always been my favorite sport. Playing in front of thousands of people in the stands, and on national TV, makes everything better.”

Vickers and Coplon may have to attend prep school for a year before attending their respective schools. They should be ready by the 2014 season.

“I’m expecting a lot of competition,” Coplon said. “I am going to bring my ball skills. I am pretty good at watching the ball and playing the ball.”
