Havelock’s Madison Sloan ended her high school golf career with a tie for 18th at the 3A state championship tournament Tuesday at the Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines

Sloan, a senior, shot 89 in the opening round on Monday and followed that with a closing 89 Tuesday on the 5,770-yard, par-71 layout.

The tournament was played in blustery and cold conditions as the effects from Hurricane Sandy impacted play for the 78 golfers in the field.

Sloan improved on her 40th-place finish in last year’s state tournament.
