Boykin has two punt returns for touchdowns in his last two games.

“He’s an amazing athlete,” Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant said of the 5-foot-5, 145-pound Boykin. “He’s a heck of a player. He’s definitely an electrifying player with the ball in his hands. He got some great blocks on that punt return. We had some guys decleating guys on the sidelines. It was a great team punt return. He made some great moves to get to the open field, but there were some great blocks also.”

On the season, Boykin has 331 yards rushing, 491 yards receiving and 530 punt return yards. His 1,371 all-purpose yards is second on the team. He averages 11.8 yards per carry, 17.5 yards per reception and 27.9 yards per punt return.

“I’ve got to give it to my blockers,” Boykin said. “They do their assignments.”

The Rams are off this week before playing at West Craven on Nov. 8 in a game that will determine the Coastal 3A Conference championship. A victory would give Havelock its fifth straight league title as well as the conference’s top seed for the upcoming state playoffs.

Boykin said he feels good about the two-time defending state champions as the regular-season wraps up and the playoffs are nearing.

“We came in as a family at the beginning of the year,” Boykin said. “Coach Bryant told us to come in as one team and one family, and that’s what we’ve done. We’ve got good communication and everything, and there’s nothing wrong going on with this team.”
