He said that South Carolina had plans for him to play at slot receiver.

As Kyran Bowman, he said he wants to play both football and basketball for the Tar Heels.

“I’ve been playing both all my life,” he said.

On the football field, he caught 25 passes for 538 yards and eight touchdowns last season, while on the court, he averaged 23.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He was named the Coastal 3A Conference Player of the Year and was second team all-district.

“I feel like I am just starting to realize what I can do on the football field and feel like I can get playing time in basketball too at Carolina,” he said, adding that he had not talked to basketball coach Roy Williams. “I want to use the next two years of high school to get stronger, faster and run better routes in football.”

Havelock football coach Jim Bob Bryant said he thought that both were still in the process of reaching their full potential as football players.

“Both are really good players, great athletes and I’m excited to be able to coach them and excited they went ahead and made their college decisions,” Bryant said. “I think both are solid and are getting to go where they have always wanted to go. I think especially with Kyran, we have only scratched the surface of how good he can be as a football player.”
