Brothers Micheal and Kyran Bowman have been close all their lives.

They shared Havelock’s third consecutive 3A state football championship on the field together and were part of Havelock’s first trip to the eastern regionals in basketball in 22 years.

On Thursday, they shared another milestone as both announced their collegiate choices during a press conference at Havelock High.

Micheal Bowman, a junior wide receiver, said he would accept a scholarship offer from the University of South Carolina to play for coach Steve Spurrier, while Kyran Bowman, a sophomore wide receiver and guard on the basketball team, said he would attend the University of North Carolina.

Micheal Bowman said he picked the Gamecocks over N.C. State.

“I just really got along with the coaches at South Carolina and looking at the roster, they lose three starters and I feel that I have a great chance to be able to play as a freshman and that was big in my decision,” he said.

The junior was Havelock’s leading receiver during the 2013 championship season, catching 52 passes for 972 yards with 11 touchdowns.
