Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant gets engaged after the game.

Against Washington, A.J. Coplon and Joey Godette had interceptions, while kicker Dylan Baker recovered a fumble on a kickoff.

Quarterback Pharoh Cooper threw for 214 yards on a night where the ground attack was in the spotlight.

Havelock could have possibly put up more points if not for six dropped passes in the first half, and 88 yards of penalties.

“We have to hit practice hard this week and cut that stuff out,” Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant said. “I think on the drops, guys were losing their focus on the ball and trying to run and score before they caught the ball.”

For the fourth-straight season, the road to the state title game will go through Havelock. Its opponent will be the Orange Black Panthers in the Friday’s Eastern Regional Final.

Havelock defeated Cleveland last season in the same round 64-7, and lost to Eastern Alamance in both 2010 and 2009.

“It’s huge for us to have this homefield advantage, and it’s very important for this game, being the fourth year in a row with it being here at Havelock,” Bryant said. “Our home crowd is as good as any with the way the community supports us here and football being big in our community.”
