It took less than an hour for New Bern’s volleyball team to continue its unblemished early start.

The Bears (2-0) made light work of Craven County rival Havelock in three sets on Wednesday at Havelock High – 25-6, 25-13, 25-7.

“I’m not complaining too much,” said New Bern coach Tori Bennett. “In a way, a game is practice. It’s nice to be able to get a game over with, but at the same time, they love playing.”

After dominating the first two sets, Olivia Mitchell had 15-straight service points to give New Bern a 23-5 advantage in the final set.

“I bet her shoulder is sore,” Bennett said. “I was impressed that she could keep it up with that consistency.”

Following a Havelock point, Emma Melton and Bailey Jordan each had kills to push New Bern to its second win in two days.

Brittany McKeon had three service aces in a row to secure the first set. Olivia Stewart’s kill ended the second set, putting the Bears in control.
