The Havelock Rams caught fire early from long range and continued to add fuel as they cruised to a 75-52 win over White Oak in the first round of the Coastal Conference Boys' Basketball Tournament Tuesday.
The second-seed Rams drained five 3-pointers in the first quarter, and had seven in the first half as they raced out to a 38-22 lead at halftime.
They will host three seed South Central at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Zack Bruns provided the Rams (15-8) with a game-high 20 points.
“It is good to see Zack start hitting his threes again,” said Havelock coach Bill Fryczynski. “He was struggling the past few games. That was a good sign.”
Havelock had five players score in double figures. Pharoh Cooper added 16, Matt Prichard had 14 points and nine rebounds, Kyran Bowman tallied 12 and David Carter scored 10.
Shondel Granison ripped down eight boards, while Cooper and Bowman each had five as Havelock won the rebounding battle, 35-32.
From start to finish, the Rams left no suspense. They took a 22-9 lead after one quarter, a 38-22 lead at halftime and eventually built their advantage to 25 in the fourth.
“We have too much for them,” Fryczynski said.. “They are not a good team. They have one good player. Tonight, we had too much firepower for them.”
Kendall White dropped in 10 points for White Oak and Malik Jones contributed 11.

Jalisa Wilson flipped the ball into the basket with less than two seconds remaining to lift the Havelock Rams to a 35-33 victory over White Oak in the first round of the Coastal Conference Girls' Basketball Tournament Tuesday.
“It went in the basket,” Havelock coach Anna Spear said. “I'm so glad it did.”
Wilson scored just four points, but her final bucket advanced the Rams to the next round where they will play D.H. Conley on Wednesday in Greenville.
White Oak rallied from a seven-point deficit to jump on top, 33-31, with :46 seconds left off a lay-up from Tineisha Smith. Moments later, Havelock's Apriel Barrette made a spin to the basket and floated the ball in to knot the score.
Rams' speedy guard Natalie Johnson then stole the ball before getting knocked out of bounds. Wilson then came through in the clutch for Havelock (14-9) with 1.9 seconds remaining.
White Oak's buzzer-beating halfcourt attempt clanked off the rim.
“We played 20 seconds of good man-to-man defense, they've moved the ball and we rotated,” said White Oak coach Carolyn Ashdown. “Their one girl got a lucky shot off.”
The Rams' pesky defense forced 40 turnovers, but they were dominated on the glass, getting outrebounded, 34-18.
“They killed us on the boards,” Spear said. “This was the first night we've really been dominated on the boards.”
Havelock took a 17-13 advantage into halftime before the Vikings answered to even the score at 21-21 by the end of the third quarter.
Barrette drained a pair of 3-pointers within the first three minutes of the fourth quarter as the Rams extended their lead.
Trailing 31-24, White Oak went on a 9-0 run to take the lead.
“We had a lot of defensive intensity and some composure,” Ashdown said. “A couple girls made some shots. Things kept the momentum going for us.”
Barrette paced Havelock's low-scoring offensive attack with 11 points, five rebounds and five steals. Johnson netted eight and Shakina Dyer tallied five points and five boards.
Smith scored a game-high 16 points for the Vikings (15-10). Liric Levester snagged 15 rebounds.
“It's always going to be a test when we come here,” Ashdown said. “They always play with very tough defenses. We knew it was going to be a battle It was a good game.”
