Havelock High didn’t just celebrate a state championship on Friday morning. It celebrated a community.

Ram football players received their state championship medals during a ceremony Friday at the school, and the players, cheerleaders and band members received a free lunch provided by city, school and county officials.

Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant said it’s those kinds of actions that lead to success.

“It takes community support,” Bryant said of winning a state championship. “It takes great assistant coaches, and of course great players, and we have a lot of those.”

The school’s cheerleaders and band welcomed the players into the school gymnasium, and the team received proclamations from Havelock and Craven County on winning its third consecutive state 3A championship.

Bryant opened his remarks with words of thanks – from the cheerleaders, band and school’s sports medicine department to team mothers, meal sponsors and so many others in the community.
