Havelock High boys, girls cross country teams reach state meet

The Havelock High boys and girls cross country teams both qualified for the state 3A championships after placing fourth in their respective regional competitions on Saturday at J. Bert Gillette Fields in Wilson.

For the girls, Havelock finished with 124 points, edging Rocky Mount by one point to get the final team qualification spot. West Carteret won the regional with 43 points, while fellow Coastal 3A Conference member White Oak was second with 86 points. Wilson Fike was third with 115 points.

Individually for Havelock’s girls, Caitlin Annunziata finished eighth overall in a time of 20 minutes, 44 seconds. Also for the Rams, Lisa Furness (21:50) was 19th, Elizabeth Guevara (22:08) placed 22nd, Alyssa McPike (23:08) was 43rd, Ashley Bickel (23:21) took 50th, Ashley Turton (23:39) placed 58th, and Savanna Thornton (25:55) was 93rd.

Blake Dodge of West Carteret won the individual title, beating the field of 117 runners in 19:52.

The Havelock boys team totaled 223 points to finish fourth. Fellow conference member West Carteret won the region with 45 points, followed by White Oak (90) and Northern Nash (134).

Individually for Havelock, Zach Bruns paced Havelock by placing 10th overall in 17:30. Also for the Rams, Ethan Feldt (17:50) was 15th, Jeremy Prichard (18:40) was 35th, Alejandro Nava (19:43) placed 70th, Rodney Prichard (20:03) was 95th, Ethan Chirico (20:14) was 101st and Matt Brown (20:38) was 114th.

John Crossley of West Carteret won the individual title, beating the field of 147 runners with a time of 16:05.
