The Havelock Rams are the No. 1 seed in the east bracket of the 3A state playoffs that are scheduled to open on Friday.
The Rams (11-0) are scheduled to play No. 16 Topsail (4-7) in the first round at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Havelock High. As the top seed, the Rams will have homefield advantage in each playoff game as long as they continue to win.
Havelock wrapped up a perfect regular season and a fifth straight Coastal 3A Conference title with a 21-7 victory over West Craven on Friday night.
Should the Rams get past Topsail, they will face either No. 8 Southern Guilford (6-5) or No. 9 Anson (5-6) in the second round.
Four other Coastal 3A Conference teams are in the bracket with Havelock, including No. 5 Jacksonville (8-3) which plays No. 12 West Craven (7-4) in the first round, No. 6 Swansboro (8-3) and No. 14 West Carteret (6-5).
The Rams are the two-time defending state champions. Other top teams in the east bracket include No. 2 seed Western Alamance (10-1), which won the 2008 state title, No. 3 Eastern Wayne (8-2) and No. 4 North Forysth (6-5).
Among the top teams in the western bracket are No. 1 Freedom (10-1), No. 2 Concord (11-0), which lost 55-21 to Havelock in last year's state championship game, No. 3 South Point (11-0) and No. 4 Pisgah (8-3).
For the playoffs, no regular season passes are permitted for entry into the games per N.C. High School Athletic Association rules.
