The Havelock High soccer team opened Coastal 3A Conference play with a 6-2 loss to Jacksonville Tuesday night at Jacksonville.
Jacksonville got it done late in the first half, scoring three goals in the final three minutes to break open a 1-1 contest and to lead 4-1 at intermission.
With the score tied at 1-1, Zach Hall scored at the 37-minute mark and one minute later Warren Washington gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. CJay Sparks then found the back of the net with one second left in the half.
“Not bad,” Jacksonville coach Dave Miller said of theperformance. “There’s still some things to work on, but overall I’m pretty pleased with the way we’re playing. We scored three late goals in the half. We kind of got into a little rhythm at the end and then scored a quick one in the second half.”
Tyler Moore had two goals for the Cardinals, who are now 4-1-1.
Havelock got goals from Noah Kemble and John Mills. Miguel Diaz-Maurino and Nick Seegel added assists.
The Rams had 14 shots, eight of which were on goal. Justin Temple had 12 saves for Havelock.
With the loss, Havelock falls to 2-4-1 overall.
Havelock is next scheduled to play at Dixon today.
