The West Craven Eagles picked up a Coastal 3A Conference volleyball victory over rival Havelock Tuesday, winning 25-23, 25-9 and 25-14.

“The girls really played well tonight,” West Craven coach Sheila Holloway said. “I couldn’t be more proud or more pleased with how our Varsity and JV teams have improved and come along in only a year together with me.”

Senior Kaylee Koerperich had a big night at the net, slamming home 10 kills. Sarah Manning and Erin Gray each added five kills for the Eagles (6-5, 3-3 Coastal).

Adrian Smith and Rendi Wetherington each had impressive service point streaks, with Smith having nine straight and Wetherington a span of eight.

“I always try to keep my same serve routine every time I go back to the line and keep my focus on getting the ball over,” Smith said. “This win was great for us tonight. Hopefully it will boost our morale and we can keep it going through our next matches.”

For Havelock, Sha’Nice Frazier led the way with five kills and Camaryn Singleton had a streak of seven straight service points.

The Rams (1-7, 1-4 Coastal) played point-for-point with the Eagles in the first game, but fell far behind in the next two and could never catch up.
