“This win was big and it feels good. We played it like we play every other game and we still have things to do.”

About the only wormhole in the Rams’ apple Friday was committing 10 penalties for 89 yards. Other than that, Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant was happy as usual after a win.

“I thought we played really well,” Bryant said. “We had some breakdowns with fundamentals and penalties, and things like that, but with these guys, I don’t stress over those too much because I know they will make plays and their penalties are aggressive. You would rather have to worry about calming your players down than firing them up.”

No one needed to fire up the Rams, as they wanted to prove a point to the Cardinals’ defense.

Havelock rushed for 249 yards on 47 carries, and its own rock-solid defense held Jacksonville to 15 yards on 17 carries.

Malcom Ashley, Anthony Fisher and Kendal Vickers were terrors on defense for the Rams.

Havelock (8-1, 5-0 Coastal 3A) hosts West Carteret on Friday, while Jacksonville (6-3, 3-2) takes on D.H. Conley.
