Havelock boys, girls get league victories over Jacksonville

Bruns led the Rams with 19 points, 15 coming in the second half.

“Bruns struggled with his shooting early in the game, and that’s going to happen,” Fryczynski said. “But, he picked it up and he’s going to find ways to score. He’s our leader. If he doesn’t lead us, we don’t get led. We’re rudderless. So when he started to put some points on the board, we settled down and were able to build a 10-point lead.”

The Rams trailed 10-9 after the first quarter, with Granison and Prichard each playing with some early foul trouble. Granison hit a 3-pointer and knocked down two free throws in the final 1:42 of the second quarter, helping Havelock to a 27-21 lead at halftime.

Havelock began to pull away in the third quarter, using a 13-4 run over the final three minutes of the frame to build a 49-33 advantage. Pharoh Cooper scored the final five points of the period for the Rams.

“I think the best thing was that we played hard, very hard,” Fryczynski said. “We did some things we don’t normally do. We made some fouls and put them in the double bonus and let them hang around, but we played hard.”

Prichard scored 16, Cooper added 10, and Granison and Carter had nine each.

Chris Smith led Jacksonville (10-12, 5-7) with 17.
