The Havelock High Rams Booster Club voted to purchase a new mat for the wrestling program during its meeting on Monday night.
The 42- by 42-foot mat was purchased from Resilite Sports Products of Sunbury, Pa., for $8,908.29, the largest single-item purchase in the club’s 51-year history, according to a release.
The seven-section mat includes the letter H in the upper right and lower left corners. Delivery is expected in early December.
Organization treasurer Kelly Webster signed and presented the check to first-year head coach Tommy Andrews and assistant coach Chase Holleman, with both thanking club members for support of the program.
The club also voted to purchase five more black home football jerseys, five more white away jerseys and five pairs of football pants for $1,042 as part of a request from football coach Jim Bob Bryant through athletics director Mitch Williams.
In other business, the club is expected to have several new T-shirts on sale at the Havelock-Northside varsity football game on Sept. 20.
Plans were made to have the annual Alumni Tent set up for the homecoming game against Richlands on Sept. 27. Light refreshments will be served for all Havelock alumni.
The souvenir committee will be selling items out of the school basketball concession stand from Sept. 25 to 27 during Spirit Week leading up to homecoming.
The club is in need of volunteers to work at the concession stand during the Oct. 11 Senior Night football game against Swansboro.
