“We had her off the court for a while, and she’s just now getting back to being basketball savvy right now,” Spear said. “And, I thought Ieisha and Natalie played good, strong defense together. We didn’t even need to press tonight.”

McKinley hit a pair of 3-pointers early in the third quarter, the second of which put Havelock in front 45-16. She finished with 14 points, as did Johnson.

The 20th-seeded Wolverines (10-16) got 16 points from Kylah Saylon and 11 from Nekyia Baptiste but could never catch up after the slow start.

“We’re very pleased to keep dancing,” Spear said.

Havelock is scheduled to travel to No. 4 seed Union Pines (22-4), which defeated Southern Durham 64-47 in the first round, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Cameron.
