“We told them at the start that if they did wrestle like that, nobody would be able to touch them.”

Havelock’s Javar Godette, at 152 pounds, lost to Rocky Mount’s Joseph Cooper in the championship finals, earning second-place and a trip to the state championships.

“Javar put out a great effort,” Andrews said. “His main goal was to qualify for states and he succeeded. We will see how far he goes next weekend.”

Ramone Lawson, the Rams’ 145-pounder, made it to the consolation finals before losing and placing fourth in the tournament.

The top four seeds in each weight class earned a bid to the state championships, which begins on Thursday.

“Ramone did great,” Andrews said. “He was disappointed in his finish but that’s what we want to see from him. He is still going.”

All of Havelock’s wrestlers won at least one match in the regional tournament.
