Ryan Davis and John Ellis have been in the forefront for Havelock’s wrestling team all season.

They will now get a chance to chase a state title.

The two Ram seniors each won regional championships on Saturday at the 3A East Regionals at Rocky Mount High School.

With the victories, they advance to the state 3A championship wrestling tournament starting today in Greensboro.

At the regionals, both started out with two pins against their first two opponents. Davis, at 132 pounds, edged out Currituck’s Tanner Stephens 6-5 in the championship finals to earn his regional title.

Ellis, at 145 pounds, beat Rocky Mount’s Joseph Cooper 9-5 in the finals to win the regional in his weight division.

Davis and Ellis were the lone two wrestlers from Havelock to qualify for the state championship tournament.
