Davis places third, Ellis fourth in state wrestling tourney

Both Davis and Ellis were 3A regional champions.

“A lot of times at states, your semifinal matches can be harder than the championship match,” Havelock assistant coach Chase Holleman said. “Ryan and John both lost to great wrestlers, who wrestled in 4A a year ago. You don’t have to win a state championship to be one of the best wrestlers to ever walk your school’s hallways and those two guys definitely are that.”

The Rams had two other wrestlers qualify for the state championship, with Javar Godette (152) winning two matches before eventually placing in a tie for seventh place.

Ramone Lawson (145) lost 1-0 in overtime in his first-round match and won a match in the consolation bracket but was eliminated in the next round.
