The Back to School Basketball Shootout all-star game and skills clinic is scheduled for Saturday at the Havelock Recreation Center and at Havelock Middle School.
The Skills and Drills Clinic is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Havelock Recreation Center and includes instruction from Randy Gill, also known as “White Chocolate.” Gill is a member of the Street Basketball Association.
The cost of the skills clinic is $25 per person and includes an autograph from Gill as well as a ticket to the Back to School Shootout basketball games at Havelock Middle School.
The first game in the shootout is scheduled for 4 p.m. and is a local all-star game. The second contest is a contest between a Havelock all-star team and the Streetball Legends at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets for the games are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children ages 10 and under are $7 each.
Antwan Scott, a former Wake Forest player who went to New Bern High School, is among the local players expected to participate in the contest.
“We are doing it to give Havelock and Carteret County a back-to-school event. There’s going to be some skill clinics early in the day and a lot of small events,” said Scott, who was named 8th Wonder on the And1 Streetball Tour.
Gill, former Harlem Globetrotter Roscoe “Dunkin” Johnson and Myron “Airborne” Howe of the Street Basketball Association are scheduled to participate in the shootout games.
“I’m actually going to bring a team in to play against White Chocolate’s team,” Scott said. “He has some guys coming in from the D.C./Maryland area.”
