Three Havelock wrestlers win regional titles

Three Havelock High wrestlers won regional titles at the eastern 3A regional tournament held Friday and Saturday at South Central High School in Greenville.
Christian Holleman (119 pounds), David Stone (130) and Charlie Millea (heavyweight) all won their weight classifications. Ray Davis (135) lost in the championship match to Jacksonville’s Giovanni Resto to place second.
Comaldy Becton (125) and Dave Wilkins (189) both placed third in their divisions.
By virtue of placing in the top four at the regional tournament, the six Havelock High wrestlers now advance to the state tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
Havelock captured its third straight regional tournament title by totaling 146 points, while West Brunswick was second with 104 points and C.B. Aycock third with 99 1/2 points.
Also for Havelock, Dorrell Butler (215) and Kevin Sherry (145) both placed fifth.
