Comments 0 | Recommend 0Girls place fourth, boys sixth in first meet
Kelsey Bennett led the Havelock girls swim team to a fourth-place finish in its first meet of the season Wednesday.
Bennett won the 100-yard breaststroke, the only victory for the Rams on the day. The girls totaled 64 points to place fourth in the eight-team event.
The Havelock boys, with just six swimmers, totaled 24 points for sixth.
"We are a young team with just one senior," Havelock coach Ned Ciezko said. "This is probably the smallest team we've had in eight years. Most of them are freshmen and just starting out. It is always a new experience watching them swim for the first time, and I think they did quite well."
Christina Rudd placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and Emily Snell was fourth in the 100 backstroke for the Havelock girls. The 200 freestyle relay team placed second.
The top finisher for the Havelock boys was Rory Burke, who placed fifth in the 200 individual medley.
"There is always a learning curve and there were a few mistakes they made, but now we know what we have to do," Ciezko said. "We are g oing to go back and work on it, but overall, I thought it was a good meet to start off with."
Havelock's next meet is Dec. 3 at the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern.
