British soccer camp scheduled

Challenger Sports and the Havelock Parks and Recreation Department have scheduled a British soccer training camp for July 6 to 10 at the Havelock Recreation Complex.

Registration for the camp is currently taking place.

The camp includes instruction from Challenger's British coaching staff that flies to the United States to conduct camps for about 100,000 players each year.

The week-long camp includes drills as well as daily tournament plays.

Participants will also learn about the cultures of other soccer-playing countries and get the opportunity to make up cheers, bring flags and dress up in fashions of the country they represent.

Players ages 3 to 16 are eligible to participate in a variety of sessions of the camp.

Camp for ages 3 to 4 will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. each day, and the cost is $68.

Camp for ages 4 to 6 will be held from 10 a.m. to noon each day, and the cost is $91.

Half-day camp for ages 6 to 16 is 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m., and the cost is $107.

Full-day camp for ages 8 to 16 is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and the cost is $152.

Advance player sessions for ages 9 to 16 is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each day, and the cost is $107.

Each participant will receive a free camp T-shirt, soccer ball, giant soccer poster and an individual skills performance evaluation.
