The exceptional fishing has continued for the second week in a row due to calm seas and very mild weather.

Inshore fishing is producing catches of flounder and red drum. Spanish mackerel are being caught along the beaches and at the nearshore reefs. Nearshore fishing is producing catches of king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, sailfish, cobia and mahi. Offshore bottom fishing is producing catches of black sea bass, triggerfish, snapper and grouper. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, tuna, king mackerel, barracuda, mahi and sailfish.

 

TOPSAIL ISLAND

Joe Johnston reports red drum and flounder are being caught in the marsh areas and along the banks of the bays on topwater baits early in the morning and soft plastics later in the day.

Live bait fished on a Carolina rig is also producing catches of fish. Spanish mackerel are being caught just off the beaches by trolling and casting various lures to them such as spoons, jig fish and plugs.

EMERALD ISLE

Captain Bobby Bourquin reports fishing has not changed much along the Crystal Coast over the past week.

King mackerel, mahi, sailfish, cobia and Spanish mackerel are being caught at the nearshore rocks and artificial reefs. Cobia fishing has been pretty good as well. Bottom fishing is producing catches of black sea bass, flounder and grouper. Offshore bottom fishing is producing catches of black sea bass, triggerfish, snapper and grouper. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, mahi, tuna and sailfish.

MOREHEAD CITY OFFSHORE AND NEARSHORE

Captain Bill Dillon reports Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, some blackfin tuna, mahi, barracuda, king mackerel and sailfish.

The wahoo bite continues to get better.
