VANCEBORO - Friday night's cross-county rivalry game between West Craven and Havelock had a bit of everything - the good, the bad and a lot of sloppy play in the form of penalties.

Most of the sloppiness for the Eagles came in the first half as Havelock dominated in all facets, scoring the game's first 48 points, including 34 in first half.

The Rams' bouts with penalties and sloppy play came in the second half, when West Craven scored all 20 of its points.

In the 48-20 Havelock victory, the Rams racked up 412 yards of total offense but had 120 yards of penalties.

The Eagles gained 290 total yards and had 108 worth of flags.

Havelock had three touchdowns called back due to those flags but several Havelock players starred in their own 'debuts.'

Anthony Harris, in his first varsity start at quarterback, tossed 14-for-23 for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns with no interceptions.

West Carteret transfer Terrance Raynor rushed for 99 yards on 13 carries and a pair of scores.

"We were able to get the ball in everybody's hands we wanted to but we didn't execute at our best," Havelock coach Caleb King said. "I don't know what Anthony (Harris) threw for but he did a great job in his first game at quarterback, he'll only get better each week."

King chalked up the penalties to aggressive play and said they'll try and rein those in next week at practice before taking on New Bern next Friday.

As for Twichell and the Eagles, his main focuses were discipline and his players doing things they are coached to do.

"We did some things we thought we could but we shot ourselves in the foot a lot too and against a team like Havelock, you just can't do that," Twichell said. "They don't make anything easy on you, that's probably the best offense I've ever coached against."

Twichell had his own debuting quarterback in Trent Casey who threw for 188 yards on 9-for-17 with two touchdowns but had a pair of interceptions.

New Bern transfer Dontrayal Hill was the leading rusher, going for 84 yards on 18 carries with a late score.

"Focus was our main problem, we were terrible in the first half," Twichell said.

"You're going to give up points against a team that talented but you can't go out and freelance, you have to do what you're coached to do."

The Eagles will be traveling to South Central next Friday night, looking to rebound.
