The Down East Wood Ducks avoided a sweep from the Potomac Nations with a 4-2 win Thursday.
The DEWDs (3-4) hang their hat on pitching, and in this series, the pitching was not very good as they gave up 8 and 9 runs in the first two games. After he left, Cole Wiper came in with a solid 2 innings, allowing 1 earned run and a hit with 4 strikeouts. Locke St. John came in the ninth, and locked door to shut the blinds for the first save of the Wood Ducks season.
The offense gave Martinez a cushion with 3 runs in the top of the first inning. T
he run started off with a Ledarious Clark’s lead-off double. He went 1-for-4 on the day with a run scored and walk.
