The New Bern Bears battled the Havelock Rams' athleticism and size as hard and long as they could Wednesday in the Craven Holiday Classic but the Rams' firepower was too much.
Havelock led 35-19 at halftime, then cranked it up in the fourth quarter to leave New Bern with a 71-40 victory.
Khalil Barrett led the way for Havelock with 26 points and Josh Reid poured in 18.
Deshawn Heckstall was the only Bear in double-figures with 13 points.
"I appreciate the sportsmanship from Daniel (Griffee, Havelock's head coach) tonight," New Bern coach Cliff Dillard said.
"They could have beaten us worse than they did. I can't knock my guys' effort, it was there, just anytime you have more turnovers than assists, it's not good basketball."
New Bern committed 15 turnovers to Havelock's seven.
Havelock also won on the glass 40-32 with Anthony Harris leading the way with 12.
Griffee had quite the praise for his team after the win.
"These guys love playing with each other, they're unselfish and just want to be active and win," he said.
"I think this is the best team I have coached that didn't have Kyran Bowman on it."
Havelock is just 3-5 on the year with the win as it struggled early in the year without guys that were still playing football.
The Bears drop to 3-8 overall for the season and take on Jones Senior Thursday in the consolation game.
Havelock will battle West Craven for a third time this season in the championship game.
The Eagles took the first two games from the Rams.
"Tomorrow is going to be a much different game, we know that," Griffee said.
"West Craven is good, the twins are great players and we're going to have to battle to get one from them."
Dillard also said Thursday is important and a challenge for his team.
"Jones Senior is tough, they're athletic, we're going to have to come ready to play," Dillard said.
