I started and stopped this column a half-dozen times. I tried hard to avoid politics. Good grief, all of my recent columns have been either on Hillary or Donald or Obama. I’m sick of the whole crew and am sure readers must be also. Gag me with a survey.
I scanned the news items looking for a neat scientific discovery capturing my interest or some other noteworthy item worth chatting about. The only thing filling screens was politics, politics, politics, politics, politics. This election cycle seems caught up in some weird alternative reality departure from logic or common sense.
Obama says he’s wonderful and has done amazing things for the past seven years. Hillary says she doesn’t lie and her “character issues” have simply been created by enemies and opponents to obscure the truth about her amazing accomplishments.
Now it’s no secret that I consider the Democratic Party to pose clear and present dangers to the country. To that end, I’ve been supportive of Donald Trump as the only path away from destruction.
I’ve never particularly liked Donald’s persona but given the option of life or death, like Chief Twin Bears of Josey Wales fame, “It shall be life.” I will still give Trump my vote but he’s definitely trying my patience to the max.
Last week he acted the total idiot. Can one be addicted to Twitter like alcohol or drugs? Did he wake up in the middle of the night a have to reach for his phone to get a “tweet fix?”
I honestly try to have an open mind and keep reminding myself that even people who support Obama’s self-denial in the face of Islamic threats and support Hillary’s totally empty pantsuit, sometimes have valid points.
So it was with Sarah Palin whom I wholeheartedly supported when she was picked by McCain for his running mate yet turned out to be a bit of a flake. She’d still made a much better VP than Biden but did have blemishes.
And so it is with Trump. Apparently his fingers aren’t attached to his brain so he definitely needs to hook them up or cut them off. Is his ego that fragile?
If he continues down stupid detours away from serious policy into dead-ends, he’ll elect Hillary. But, on the other hand, if he’ll keep focused he has a good shot.
Dems have their own problems. If the present administration - which Hillary has promised to continue in substance and spirit - keeps on thumbing their collective noses at we citizens by paying $400 million in cash ransom to Iran for American hostages, it’s a recipe for very bad juju.
And fat ladies may sing because other shoes might drop over the next 100 days. Hillary has a lot of bags that might spring open.
Can you believe in light of commuting life sentences, shipping $400 million “large” (don’t you miss Tony Soprano?) to the top sponsor of terrorism in the world and doubling the national debt, Obama’s favorability is at an all-time high?
My saucer must have strayed off course. Maybe people on my planet should just come get me. I’ll wait.
