William James Condie

William “Bill” James Condie, 90, of Morehead City, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Harborview Health Care Center.

He was born on July 3, 1922, in Spring Valley, Ill. He was a diesel engineer on a minesweeper during World War II. He joined the Morehead City Police Department in 1954 and served as police chief from 1982 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Rotary International, Elks, Moose, County Law Enforcement, N.C. Law Enforcement and St. Egbert Catholic Church. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Egbert Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Davis and Monsignor Francis Moeslein officiating.

Interment with Police Officer Honors will follow at Bayview Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Rouse Condie; two sons, William Condie Jr. of Yukon, Okla., and Malcolm Condie of Newport; one sister, Marguerite Hawley of Tonica, Ill.; one brother, Anthony Condie of Peru, Ill.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home, with Christian wake service at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
