William Harold Stowers

William “Bill” Harold Stowers, 92, of New Bern, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center, New Bern.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a high school teacher for more than 30 years. He was a member of Cherry Point Church of Christ in Havelock and an avid Washington Redskins fan.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pollock-Best Funeral Home Chapel, New Bern, with Winfred Felton officiating.

Burial with military honors will be noon Monday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

He is survived by his wife, Edith S. Stowers; two sons, Stanley Kent Stowers of Tiverton, R.I., and Bruce Douglas Stowers of Providence R.I.; one daughter, Suellen Hall of Eugene, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherry Point Church of Christ.
