Troy Mason "Dick" Simmons, 80 of Crumpler, formerly of Newport, died on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Newport, and after serving in the Air Force, returned home and began work as a clerk and then manager of New Bern Auto Supply. He would later become general manager of Havelock Auto Supply and would hold that position until it was destroyed by a fire. He rebuilt the business and was its owner until retiring and moving to Crumpler. He was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church and formerly a member of Newport Baptist Church.

Memorial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Piney Creek with the Rev. R. David Felts officiating.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Newport Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Carroll officiating.

Interment will follow at the Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann Moore Simmons; one son, William Troy Simmons; one daughter, Dawn Michelle Simmons; three grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City.
