Tim Shea quietly passed away on November 5, 2012 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rebecca Nelson-Shea; daughters, Erin and Molly; a son, Isaiah, daughter-in-law, Anke, and granddaughter, Matilda.
Tim was raised on the family farm in NW Iowa, the eighth of nine children born to Roman and Vivian Shea. He attended Spalding Catholic School in Granville, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa.
He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 1982. Upon graduation, he and Rebecca were commissioned into the U.S. Navy Dental Corps and he began a distinguished career that included tours as Clinic Director in Athens, Ga., Ingleside, Texas, and Willow Grove, Pa., before retiring aboard MCAS Cherry Point in June 2012. Among the highlights of his career were cruises in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean, a tour in Iraq in 2007, and recognition as an honorary U.S. Navy Chief.
Tim and Becky loved the challenges and rewards of Navy life and are grateful for the support of friends and colleagues, past and present.
A memorial service will be held at the MCAS Cherry Point Chapel on Friday, November 16 at 2 p.m. The family will receive callers at their home on Thursday, Nov 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, IA, where his brother, Mike Shea, has worked for 26 years. www.nylencancercenter.com.
