Richard Alan “Al” Burd

Richard Alan “Al” Burd, 60, of Newport, became one of God’s Angels Saturday morning, March 9, 2013. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home with his wife and daughter at his side.

Al was born May 9, 1952, in Plainfield, N.J., to the late John and Eleanor Burd. He was an automotive technician for over 35 years, working at Ford dealerships and achieving the Ford Senior Master Technician Award multiple times throughout his career. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time on the water with his son-in-law, Jeremiah, and other friends. Al was very family-oriented and all animals held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 23 years, Donna Lane Burd; his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Lindsay B. and Jeremiah N. Williford of Morehead City; his loyal and faithful Walker Hound “Elly”; brother, Bill Burd of Newport; and two sisters, Nancy Hoff and husband, Bob, and Cindy Arter and husband, Richard, all of O’Fallon, Mo.

A private service will be held by the family.
