Mary Pickett Alford, 90, of Morehead City, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Harborview Health Care Center.

She was born July 22, 1922, in Chester, Pa. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was co-owner of Alford’s Gift Shop and Office Supplies, had her own radio program “Capsule Comments” on WMBL, wrote “Memories” for the Carteret County News-Times, was a sales representative for Ben Alford and Associates, sold cars at Bogue Auto Sales, and was a secretary at Harborview Health Care Center. 

Memorial will be 2 p.m., Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Frese officiating.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon S. Wells of Newport and Jane S. Hunter of Beaufort; two sons, Quincy Stimpson of Morehead City and Benjamin Randall Alford Jr. of Atlantic Beach; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 483, Morehead City, NC 28557.

Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory, Morehead City.
