Lindbergh Norris Sr., 69, of 1375 Blades Road, Havelock, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.
He was a lifetime member of Piney Grove AMEZ Church and served as a member of the Senior Choir, Sons of Piney Grove, superintendent of Sunday School and teacher, president of Lay Council, chairman of Men Day Committee, vice chairman of Steward Board, Class Leader No. 4, Budget Committee and Cemetery Committee. He was employed at H&N Chevrolet of Havelock from 1962 to 1993 and as the auto mechanic instructor at Havelock High School from 1993 to 2012.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Piney Grove AMEZ Church, 1430 Temples Point Road, Havelock, with the Rev. Robert Little Jr. officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Piney Grove Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Godette Norris of the home; one son, Lindbergh Norris Jr. of Havelock; six daughters, Demorris N. Hukins, Naomi N. Daniel, Gladys Norris, and Rosemary Norris-McCluney, all of Raleigh, Annette R. Weber of Blythewood, S.C., and Corena Norris-McCluney of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Leroy Carter and Napoleon Carter of Havelock, and Sammy Collins of Raleigh; four sisters, Edna Carter Kearney of Havelock, Brenda C. Battle and Ettie Collins of Greensboro, and Theresa Carter of Bronx, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Oscar’s Mortuary, New Bern.
