Jean Carter Sullivan Proctor, 87, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, April 21, 2013.

She was born March 5, 1924, in Rocky Mount, and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s Junior College in 1945 and Salem College in 1947. She owned Jean’s Beauty Shop and later worked in her husband’s business, R.L. Proctor Electric Company. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, elder, and president of the Women of the Church. She served on the Board of Directors of Covenant Homes. She enjoyed playing cards, reading books and spending time at Atlantic Beach.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pineview Cemetery. Service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Rocky Mount.

She is survived by two children, Alice Proctor Witten of Havelock and Russell Leon Proctor III of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service and at other times at the home of Nancy and Russell Proctor, 2148 Joelene Drive, Rocky Mount.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church memorial fund, 153 North Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27801, East Carolina Council Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 1698, Kinston, NC 28503, or Nash Community College Foundation, 522 North Old Carriage Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Arrangements are by Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.
