James A. Lewis, 86, of 2055 N.C. 101, Havelock, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.

He served in the Army and retired as an electrical engineer from NARF. He served as a member of the Board of Education, United Tri County Senior Citizens, Havelock Community Association, Arabian Temple No. 42, the New Bern Consistory No. 30, and East Lily Lodge No. 803. He was a lifetime member of Antioch M.B. Church, serving on the Deacon Board, and his association duties included chairperson of NBEMB Carteret-Craven Union, former president of Sunday School Convention and vice-president NBEMB Laymen League.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the New Bern Eastern MB Association Headquarters, 885 N.C. 306 North, Grantsboro, with the Rev. Billy Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in New Bern Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters, Diana Lewis of Havelock and Myra L. Gaines of Greensboro; one son, William Davis of Morehead City; one brother, Malcolm Murray of Red Bank, N.J.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends at the residence from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Masonic ritualistic services will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Oscar’s Mortuary, New Bern, by the Arabian Temple, New Bern Consistory and East Lily Lodge.
