Jack Batts, 79, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his home.
He served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Ft. Devens in Shirley, Mass., and he worked in telecommunications. He retired from the telephone company after 40 years.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Chapel, Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern.
He is survived by his wife, Frances W. Batts; two sons, Timothy D. Batts of Hendersonville and Steve E. Batts of New Bern; one daughter, Angela Offenberger of Havelock; four brothers, Vernon Batts, Bob Batts and Tom Batts, all of Elm City, and James Batts of Knightdale; eight sisters, Doris Pridgen, Grace Raper, Ernestine Mercer and Pat Mullen, all of Elm City, Katie Williams of Cary, Shirley Gardner of Rocky Mount, Jo Bradshaw of Savannah, Ga., and Sue Hancock of Nags Head; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotten Funeral Home, New Bern.
