Horace E. Knapp Jr., 94, died March 27, 2013, due to a head injury from a fall.
He was born in Las Animas, Colo., and had been living on Boise, Idaho, after relocating from New Bern. He served in the Marine Corps, retiring as a colonel. He was the third Marine officer assigned to Cherry Point and fought in three wars, having been wounded in Korea. After retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked as Town Administrator of Florham Park, N.J., for 10 years before retiring and relocating back to New Bern. He volunteered at the Retired Activities Office at Cherry Point.
Among his survivors are his wife, Fran; and two sons, Dick Knapp and Tom Knapp.
