George E. Horner

George E. Horner, 91, of New Bern, died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center, New Bern.

He spent almost his entire life in New Bern. He was a graduate of New Bern High School and the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a Mason and member of the Doric Lodge since 1945, a Shriner, and played in the Shriner and Community bands. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion Post No. 24. He was both retired from civil service after a 30-year career at Cherry Point and more than 60 years as a chiropractor. He was an original member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and enjoyed music, travel, reading, sailing and dancing.

Memorial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, New Bern.

He is survived by his wife Arneda; one son, Tom Horner of Kinston; one daughter, Vicky Gray of Lexington; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory, New Bern.
